Agnieszka Nowosielska, DMSc

Agnieszka Nowosielska DMSc is an experienced ophthalmic surgeon. She passed Speciality Exams of Ophthalmology of I and II Degree. As an expert in the field of diseases of the retina and the vitreous body, she specializes in the treatment of both wet and Dry Age-Related Macular Degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal vein occlusion. She defended her PhD thesis on laser treatment for diabetic maculopathy.

Dr Nowosielska was among the first specialists in Poland to perform intravitreal injections in the course of Age-Related Macular Degeneration. Since 2006, she has performed more than 11 000 intravitreal injections of different medicines (Avastin, Triamcinolone, Lucetis, Ozurdex, Eylea) in a number of diseases (AMD, DME, CMO, neovascular glaucoma).

Vitrectomy, a surgery of the vitreous body and of the retina, dominated the scientific interest of Dr Nowosielska. This surgery is considered to be the most difficult among all the procedures performed in the field of ophthalmology. Not only specialized knowledge and manual skills, but also extensive clinical experience are needed in order to carry out a vitrectomy successfully. Dr Nowosielska has performed around 2 500 of such operations so far. Some of them combined vitrectomy with cataract surgery, treatment for diabetic retinopathy, vitreous haemorrhage, retinal detachment, epiretinal membranes, macular holes, retinal vein occlusion, and neovascular glaucoma. Dr Nowosielska has also treated macular diseases in patients with retinitis pigmentosa.

Cataract surgery, during which one of the different types of intraocular lenses (monofocals, multifocals, accommodative, toric, etc.) is inserted into the eye, is another type of procedure performed by Dr Agnieszka Nowosielska. So far, he has performed more than 5 000 primary cataract surgeries. She has also performed cataract surgeries in complicated clinical cases: in patients with subluxated cataract, luxated cataract, very dense cataract, cataract after vitrectomy or buckling surgery, cataract with pseudoexfoliation syndrome or in patients with high short-sightedness.

Agnieszka Nowosielska gained her experience in a number of highly reputed centres in Poland and abroad, such as the Private Eye Clinic in Hamburg under the supervision of Professor Paul Fechner (cataract, refractive surgeries) and the Will Eye Hospital in Philadelphia under the supervision of Professor George Speath (cataract, glaucoma, retinopathies). Subsequently, thanks to a grant awarded by the European Society of Ophthalmology, Dr Nowosielska had a chance to complete a training programme in one of the best centres in Europe –  the Moorfields Eye Hospital under the supervision of Professor Zdenek Gregor. She attended a course on cataract surgeries in Ahmedabad, India under the supervision of Doctor Vasavada, one of the best specialists in the world. She learned more about vitreoretinal surgeries in the Moorfields Eye Hospital in Great Britain and in an ophthalmic centre in Bremen under the supervision of Professor Klaus Lucke, the founder and president of the European Vitreo-Retinal Society.

Dr Agnieszka Nowosielska is a member of prestigious scientific associations including the European Vitreo-Retinal Society (EVRS), where she acted as a representative of YOUNG EVRS for a number of years, the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), as well as the European Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS). She is also a co-author of numerous research papers and speeches for both Polish and foreign conferences. She collaborated in translating into Polish two American manuals on ophthalmology – Wills Eye Manual and Basic and Clinical Science Course, Section 15.

Aldona Krzyżewska-Niedziałek, MD

 

Aldona Krzyżewska-Niedziałek became a specialist in the field of ophthalmology in 2013. She completed a residency programme in the Ophthalmic Clinic of the Orłowski Hospital in Warsaw. Currently, she works in the Ophthalmology Unit of the Hospital in Przasnysz. In addition, she conducts a private practise, where she diagnoses and treats eye diseases in children and adults. She is a co-author of several scientific publications from the field of ophthalmology concerning viral retinal infections, corneal infections, AMD treatment and diabetic macular oedema, among others. She continues to raise her qualifications by participating in courses and professional training both in Poland and abroad.
